Joo Chiat Eat Streets
Next to cultural heritage, food is Joo Chiat’s claim to fame as Singaporeans indulge in one of their favourite pastimes: Eating! Joo Chiat’s multi-racial food heritage is best reflected in the never-ending and eclectic mix of restaurants, zhi char joints, kopitiams, stalls, specialty food and cake shops that line the streets here.
Cuisines from Peranakan, Chinese, Malay, Indian, Indonesian, Eurasian, French and Japanese jostle with some of Singapore’s best cakes, curry puffs, durian puffs, nyonya kueh, otak and more. Plus, an old bakery that’s been around since post-World War II and, did anyone tell you Joo Chiat is the bak chang hub of Singapore?
It sure took a long time to compile this list, mainly because there’s so much good food to start with. We are still adding names and details as we go. Please don’t hesitate to send us your views or discoveries of new places in our neighbourhood. Email:
